DC Development Spotlight: Armed Forces Retirement Home


Bo in BisnowOver 4 million sq ft of development is planned for the campus of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, a 77 acre property at the northwest corner of North Capitol and Irving Streets. Crescent Resources LLC has been selected to develop the site which will include 2,500 multifamily units, 1.4 million sq ft of office space, 125 hotel rooms, new retail with a 40,000-50,000 sq ft grocery store, and 20 acres of public park space.  Construction could start as early as the end of this year.  For more information on the development check out the recent article in the Washington Business Journal.

What are DC’s Next Hot Spots?

A recent article in the Washington Business Journal’s Onsite Magazine highlights 13 different neighborhoods in the metro DC area to keep an eye on.   Researchers have found that Generations  X and Y are putting much more emphasis on life work balance, and the majority plan to live in an urban core where they can work,  shop,  go out to eat, exercise and socialize all without getting in a car.  Developers aware of this trend and trying to stay ahead of the curve by planning major developments in close- in neighborhoods that have good public transportation and community amenities.  Some of the neighborhoods they mention are Hill East, Fort Totten, Poplar Point, Rosslyn, Columbia Pike and Mount Rainer.  To see why these and others are being identified as the next hot spots, read the full article.
